Introducing Cargo Emporium!

We know what you’re thinking:
Can Cargo possibly get any more magical?

You’d better believe it!

Introducing CARGO EMPORIUM. Cargo, already a Portland institution of international and local artisan goods, has opened its doors to several hand-selected businesses to join the Cargo family and create one of the most vibrant maker’s scenes in Portland.

Some of the new permanent pop-up shops within Cargo Emporium:

Cargo
Cargo celebrates 22 years of bringing beauty and whimsy to Portland and Astoria, specializing in direct importing of home wares, folk art, and authentic craft from around the world. Owners Patty and Bridgid form deep relationships with artisans and craftspeople to create Cargo’s signature style.

TASI
TASI Jewelry features gorgeous natural gemstones and rare, antique beads from around the world by second-generation jeweler, Taya Koschnick. In the TASI store, shop jewelry plus curated gifts including candles, bath & beauty, and accessories by some of our favorite makers. TASI Jewelry has been a Portland favorite for more than 10 years!

Bloke Botanicals
Offering landscaping, interior foliage, and botanical design, Bloke has been making Portland pretty since 2011.

Loaded Hips Press
Loaded Hips Press is run by the great-granddaughter of a puppet set designer and showcases cards and gifts printed by hand and by letterpress.

Hello Good Morning
A fun shop for kids and grownups too!

Rx Letterpress
When not severing her fingers, Rx Letterpress’s artist-owner uses vintage lead type and antique letterpress to bring you the most horrible, adorable cards around!

Cargo Emporium debuts at the first Central Eastside Street Fair on August 18, 2018, from 12 - 7pm on SE Yamhill St. at Water Avenue. It will be a day of interactive art, music, food and shopping celebrating the businesses, artists and makers of the Central Eastside, and is free and open to the public. The Fair is sponsored by Cargo and Lippman Co. and benefits Central City Concern, a Portland-based nonprofit providing comprehensive solutions to ending homelessness and achieving self-sufficiency.

Eat the New Neighborhood!

Now that we’ve settled into our new digs in SE Portland, we wanted to share the best eats in our new neighborhood! Next time you come to TASI you won’t have to stumble far for some yummy sustenance after shopping til’ you drop!

This hip Japanese restaurant serves four ramens, one changing seasonally, and popular small plates including steamed buns and a beloved, warm Brussels sprouts and cauliflower salad. Our TASI staff favorite is the fried chicken rice bowl with kimchi and seaweed!  It’s a must!

The White Owl Social Club, a largely vegan bar and restaurant with a sprawling patio, is just a few blocks from our jewelry store! With a great happy hour, outdoor fire pits and outdoor dj’s, this place is a favorite of all types of folks.  And don’t worry carnivores, they have yummy meat options for you too.

The darling of Portland’s local, artisanal food scene, Olympia Provisions, is a must see because Oregon’s first USDA-approved salumeria is making sausage the old-fashioned way.  Serving up authentic charcuterie boards with a bounty of meats, cheeses and pickled vegetables, Olympia Provisions is putting Portland back on the meat map.

Located on the same block as Cargo, this brewery is a favorite amongst locals in the industrial district.  Offering creative dishes such as the Chuck Norris duck wings “with a solid punch and a nice kick” and classics like beef brisket and mac n’ cheese, this brewery is the perfect spot for some yummy comfort food with a twist.

Kachka just may be America’s best Russian restaurant but you be the judge! With traditional favorites like herring under a fur coat, dumplings, cabbage rolls and pickled fish, Kachka will give you a dining experience unlike any other in town.  Oh and did we mention they have a menu of twelve house infused alcohols, from horseradish to exotic buckthorn berries and bracingly tannic beet fernet?

Looking for something a little fancier? Clarklewis is a bustling eatery in the central eastside industrial district serving Italian inspired local, organic, seasonal, sustainable fare. And it’s one block away! Clarklewis has received many honors since opening, including restaurant of the year from the Oregonion and is known for its farm-to-table approach to fine dining.  Check out their happy hour from 4:30-6:30pm for some cheaper bites!

Come visit us at our TASI store this weekend and tell us which was your favorite!

Welcome Blair!

Welcome Blair!

We are so excited to introduce TASI’s new Retail Sales & Store Manager, Blair Minor!

Originally from Southern California, Blair grew up in a large family of creative women who taught her cooking, gardening, and sewing at a very early age and ignited in her a passion for the creative arts in all forms.

While attending UCSC, Blair began her career in jewelry by collecting and restructuring vintage jewelry that she found at flea markets into more modern silhouettes. After much success with this endeavor, she moved to Los Angeles where she designed jewelry for companies like Saks 5th Avenue, Henri Bendel, Anthropologie, Forever 21, and many more.

While this afforded her an unmatched knowledge into the commercial world of jewelry, Blair craved a return to her roots in jewelry - high quality, unique, handmade designs with a story. And she’s found a perfect home with TASI!

Blair will be womaning the TASI store most days in addition to her strategic role in growing the TASI brand!

Blair lives in SE Portland with her husband, Kevin; dog, Big Viv; and cats, Tito & Fat Stuff.

2017 Pantone Color of the Year

2017 Pantone Color of the Year

Pantone has become the authority on color in the design world. Pantone sets color standards making it possible to effectively communicate color across the many media of design – digitally and in print. Pantone also watches and forecasts color trends, impacting the palette choice of designers around the world.

The Pantone color of 2017 is Greenery! Pantone described Greenery as, “a fresh and zesty yellow-green shade that evokes the first days of spring when nature’s greens revive, restore and renew.” Nothing could sound better as we chip and thaw our way out of yet another ice storm in Portland this winter!

We love this color and it can be found in many pieces of the TASI line! Greenery is a match to the gorgeous stone Green Garnet, a gemstone option for all pieces in the TASI Gemstone Collection. Green Garnet is said to promote confidence and stability in challenges. It is a beautiful accent to silver and even more rich when paired with gold. View the Gemstone Collection and all the designs that can feature Green Garnet - the color trend for 2017.

Greenery is also the color of Peridot, one of Taya’s favorite gemstones to feature in one-of-a-kind designs, and the birthstone for August!
